The workshop objective was to raise awareness on the increasing burden of motorcycle crashes and injuries in low- and middle-income countries and to explore strategies for preventing them – with a special emphasis in Africa. There was a rich agenda with presentations from experts from around the world. The presentations and discussions addressed key issues about the magnitude, risk factors and challenges of the increasing motorcycle injuries for Kenya, and technical details on how they can be addressed, including capacity building, research, policy, legislation on helmet use and law enforcement. The gathering provided a forum for dialogue and networking with individuals and organizations interested in road safety, with a focus on motorcycle safety. The recently released Global Status Report on Road Safety was formally presented by Dr. Margie Peden to the Minister for Public Health and Sanitation. Each participant also received a copy of the report.
