WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ROAD TRAFFIC VICTIMS

In anticipation of the United Nation’s Decade for action on road safety, which will take place from 2011 to 2020, the Republic Council on Road Traffic Safety (RCRTS) this year has celebrated the World Day of remembrance for road traffic victims for the second time.
On Thursday, 18th November 2010, at 11:00 a joint press-conference was held within the RCRTS including all the partners, when all the planned activities for the Remembrance Day were presented. RCRTS has also promoted the documentary film for drivers and the general public, aimed to raise the public awareness for greater road safety and reducing the traffic accidents and their consequences. This documentary, prepared in collaboration with the Association of physically disabled persons of Macedonia, is confession of a disabled person as a consequence of traffic collisions. The documentary was distributed among journalists of electronic media – national TV stations to broadcast on their programs. It has also been distributed for broadcasting to the local TV stations.
The main event was held on 21st November 2010, on the street Macedonia in Skopje, during which all the partners have celebrated this day with various activities.

The Republic Council on Road traffic safety has put up 160 pairs of shoes at a specially fenced area, thus symbolizing the 160 killed persons in traffic accidents in R. Macedonia in 2009. For this purpose, 160 pupils from four elementary schools (ES “Koco Racin”, ES “K. J. Pitu”, ES “11 Oktomvri”, ES “Sts. Cyril and Methodius”) have joined this event and each of them has provided a pair of old shoes. These shoes were donated to the Macedonian Red Cross after the event.

This event was visited by the President of the RCRTS, Nikola Angelovski, MSc, and the Minister of internal affairs, Mrs. Gordana Jankulovska, who, upon their visit of the stands, have given a statement to the media, stressing the importance of this day and have urged for conscientious traffic behaviour in order to reduce the number of victims.
The ministry of internal affairs has joined the celebration by setting up an stand, displaying the material – technical means and the equipment for preventive and repressive actions for reducing the number of traffic accidents, such as: motor vehicle equipped to determine the speeding, motorcycle and helmet, laser radar, equipment for determination of blood alcohol concentration, simulator for training of digital tachographs control, two control keys for indication of infringements related to usage of digital tachographs.

Macedonian Red Cross has joined the celebration by organizing of blood donor campaign at the House of the Macedonian army forces, in the period between 11:00 and 14:00.
Institute of Public Health, World Health Organization and Ministry of health have set up a joint stand with promotional materials and banner. Prof. Tozija Fimka (on the photo) was presenting the promotion materials prepared for this occasion.

The celebration was supported by the Ministry of education and science and the Ministry of transport and communication.
