Publication of the report “Spatial Analysis of Road Traffic Injuries involving Bicycles and their interaction with bike lanes in the Great City of Santiago” (CONASET)

On the statistics of the last 10 years in Chile, those who died in crashes involving bicycles rank third of all fatal victims of road traffic injuries This, added to studies by the World Bank, indicate that the number of cyclists in the city of Santiago are growing annually between 15% and 18% and currently leads the Rankin for the use of this medium of transportation in South America, thanks to a series of incentives to the use of bicycles in recent years, including bicycle paths opening as a key element, contribute in significance of this study.

It analyzes crashes involving bicycles in their spatial component during the years 2008-2011, in order to relate these events to the bike paths, and identify trouble spots for better planning of these routes.

This analysis is intended to support decision-making in relation to the use of bicycles in the urban context, to identify unsafe locations riders for its high number of accidents that involved, at the same time giving the public in general security conditions as a guide to using your bike in your neighborhood.
