In memory of Steve Manyozo: a passionate road safety researcher in Africa
Steve Manyozo was the founding Director of the Road Safety Research and Implementation Unit in Malawi and an esteemed member of the Road Traffic Research Network. He was also an Alumni Fellow of the Global Road Safety Leadership Course run by Johns Hopkins University and the Global Road Safety Partnership and had just completed a one-year mentoring course in July this year. Steve was full of ideas and was implementing several road safety projects including one funded by the UK-MRC looking at the air pollution and road safety nexus among children walking to school and another assessing the emergency medical service system in Malawi.
Here is a recent short presentation that Steve gave to Bloomberg Philanthropies about his work in July this year. Tragically he passed away on 6 October 2022 after a very short illness which he bore with courage and resilience.
Steve has left a great young team in Malawi who will continue with his vision and passion for road safety. Many of us at RTIRN were proud to call him a colleague and a friend. In order to help support his wife Patience and their little boy, we have set up a GoFundMe site where, if you are able, we encourage you to lend your support https://gofund.me/a9b7fa91
